  • I was struggling with a frozen shoulder and hip bursitis. Both were greatly impacting my movement, sleep, and quality of life. I felt stuck — disappointed by my lack of progress in physical therapy, overwhelmed by conflicting advice, and disconnected from family and friends who were living active lives I couldn’t join.

    Basis gave me a bridge back to working out safely and effectively. The training and support I received helped me prioritize my health, overcome the intimidation I’d always felt around weights and barbells, and learn how to assess and respond to my body with confidence. I can now apply CARs, PAILs, RAILs, and FRC tools on my own — possibly the best gift Basis has given me.

    The changes have been incredible: better sleep, improved outlook, stronger appetite, more motivation, and renewed confidence. Most importantly, I can keep up with my active family again. I even picked up wakesurfing this summer and I’m betting this winter will be my best ski season ever.

    “I came to Basis with constant sciatica pain, trouble sleeping, high stress, and a work-life balance that was way off. Since joining, my sciatic pain has been noticeably reduced, and those severe flare-ups that used to control my days are few and far between.

    I’ve built a more consistent schedule in the gym with a targeted approach for my back. Coaching on nutrition and diet has been helpful, and I’m making progress on my work-life balance, which has reduced stress overall.

    “When I started at Basis, I was four months postpartum with my fourth child. I was anxious to move again and regain strength. Being active keeps me in a healthy mental space so my husband and children can have the best of me.

    Since joining, my strength has increased tremendously. My core strength after four kids was very poor, but I’ve worked my way back to sit-ups, planks, and all core exercises without assistance. I feel confident lifting weights safely and properly. With the coaches’ guidance, I’ve shifted from being a cardio junky to finding real balance between weight training and cardio.

    Exercising no longer feels like a chore — it feels like a blessing. I look forward to coming to the gym, not just for the workouts but for the community of friends and coaches who make every session meaningful.

Kathryn’s been with Basis since the very beginning and she’s not looking back.

  • With Basis, I've made more progress in the last six months than in the last six years. I've lost about 20 pounds and increased my strength.

    Keeping and maintaining weight loss has always been my biggest challenge. While I love showing up to class and being part of the community, the hardest part has been managing things outside the gym. This year, with Nate's help, I've focused more on my calorie balance and have a better plan in place. I'm now able to enjoy food while working towards my performance and aesthetic goals.

    I want to be stronger, add lean mass, avoid the aches and pains of aging, and look good. I can now do 10+  pull-ups, up from a max of three, and my bench press is improving without causing shoulder pain, thanks to the right programming. Kinstretch and mobility work have also reduced the length of any discomfort.

    I'm seeing significant quality of life improvements by working just as hard outside of Basis as in class and following the coaches' advice.

    I started at Basis after realizing I could no longer rely on my youthful metabolism. After knee and shoulder surgeries, I had gained weight and was out of shape, with joint pain and an unrealistic view of how to handle my fitness moving forward.

    First and foremost, I feel like I've reclaimed my body. I've utilized everything Basis has to offer- Personal Training, individual programming, group training . I am lighter and stronger from strength training and have dramatically improved cardio performance from conditioning classes. My biggest improvement has been in joint mobility through kinstretch and personal training with Andre.

    Having had several joint surgeries since my teens, joint mobility was my biggest limiting factor. The Basis team quickly became aware of my needs and offered modifications. Recently, dedicated personal training has improved my joint range and strength to the point where I hardly notice any limitations. It's been awesome!

    With improved joint health, everything else has turned up a notch. I can push harder and wake up pain-free, ready to go again.

    This is the place to be! If you're unsure where to begin your fitness journey, these guys will make it happen. If you have specific issues like joint pain, they will find a workaround to get you through it pain-free. If you have social anxiety, I highly recommend this welcoming and non-intimidating gym. It's genuinely a place for everyone to stay fit, stay healthy, and support one another. I've made many friends and gained a ton of confidence—physically, mentally, and emotionally—since joining.

    Auburn:

    Basis has helped me get my mind and body in sync. I feel this alignment in my work, daily activities, and especially at the gym. Sometimes my body can do more than my mind imagined. I feel physically stronger and more mentally focused. I'm in tune with my body's capacities and limits, and I see changes in how my clothes fit (I've lost over 10 inches), along with lower blood pressure which was a big goal when I started.

    I have much more energy throughout the day. Having a loose nutrition plan has reduced my decision fatigue and anxiety around food and meal prepping. Life is simpler now that I know my goals and strive to achieve them every day, instead of guessing and hoping for results. And of course, I'm getting wayyyyy stronger, which is awesome.
