Vision: Your Most Powerful Asset

It’s hard to hold onto a big vision for your future when your present feels so constrained. Our lives are packed with responsibilities & obligations…an environment where big ambitions and dreams wither away.

As a coach, optimism is part of my DNA. I have to believe in what's possible for people—often before they believe it themselves. What I see most often is people setting goals that feel safe and realistic. Things like:

  • Go to the gym 3x a week for a year

  • Stop eating sugar

But let’s be honest… does that feel compelling to anyone? It’s a life with more “can’t do this”.

Whenever I start working with a new client, goal-setting is part of the process. From this questionnaire we will often see “goals” comparable to the one i mentioned above…

Get our Goal Setting Questionnaire.

You can access the same goal-setting questionnaire Right here!

and my first question is usually Why? Tell me more

If we’re being real, going to the gym for a year isn’t the goal. The goal is probably feeling stronger, fitting into your clothes better, and moving through life without feeling held back by your body.
When someone says they want to “eat less sugar,” what they really want is likely to regain control over their decisions, to have more energy, to stop feeling like food is controlling them.

Focus on the Vision, Not Just the Process

Most people fail at their goals because they focus on the process instead of the real outcome they’re after.

Let’s put it another way:

“Stop eating sugar” OR “I want to work toward regaining control over my decisions & start living life with intention.”
Which one feels more powerful? More meaningful? More motivating?

Your vision for your life is your most powerful asset. Without clear vision, your habits feel like obligations. A life filled with constraints & limited progress. With it, your habits become non-negotiable stepping stones to something bigger- The life you strive to live.

This idea reminds of a Carl Jung quote that sits on my desk:

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I chose to become.”

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I chose to become.”
